PRIN — Principles for Businesses

The foundation of all FCA regulation. Every other sourcebook breach is also, by extension, a breach of one or more of these eleven Principles. CareQuest cites PRIN alongside every specific rule breach to strengthen the regulatory narrative.

Breach Likelihood Search

Select a product type and a breach category. CareQuest returns an estimated likelihood profile — drawn from aggregate regulatory findings and case patterns — not a list of named individual cases. This protects clients from being overwhelmed with raw legal data while still showing the strength of the regulatory picture.

Select a product and category, then search

Estimates are based on aggregate regulatory findings, published industry redress data, and CareQuest's case experience. They indicate the strength of the regulatory landscape for this product/breach combination — not a guarantee of outcome for any individual claim. Every claim is individually assessed following document retrieval via DSAR.

Legal & Regulatory
Source Library

CareQuest's breach analysis draws on more than the FCA Handbook alone. These are the primary legal and regulatory sources our case team references when building a claim — each linked directly to the live, official source.

BAILII — Case Law Database

The British and Irish Legal Information Institute is the UK's primary free repository of court judgments. CareQuest references BAILII to identify legal precedent on mis-selling, unfair contract terms, and consumer protection — particularly Court of Appeal and Supreme Court rulings that shape how lenders' conduct is judged.

How CareQuest uses this: When a claim involves a novel or contested legal point, our case team checks BAILII for relevant precedent before finalising the complaint narrative.

PRA Rulebook

The Prudential Regulation Authority's Rulebook governs the safety and soundness of UK banks, building societies, and insurers. Where a firm's prudential conduct (capital adequacy, risk management, governance) contributed to a mis-selling pattern, the PRA Rulebook provides the relevant regulatory framework alongside the FCA Handbook.

How CareQuest uses this: Used in combination with SYSC (systems & controls) breaches to evidence that mis-selling stemmed from firm-wide governance failure, not isolated misconduct.

FOS Ombudsman Decisions

The Financial Ombudsman Service publishes anonymised summaries of upheld complaints. This is the single best public indicator of how a specific lender, product type, or breach category is actually being decided in practice — distinct from what the rules say in theory.

How CareQuest uses this: Before submitting a complaint, we review recent upheld decisions in the same category to calibrate the strength of the narrative and the realistic compensation range.
